Jack Recommendation and Maintenance for Thuro-bilt Horse Trailer

Question:

My trailer is 9760lb GVWR Im looking at your TJA5000SB 5000lb bolt on side wind zinc finish jack 15inch from base to top would that be the proper weight for my trailer? The jack I have now is original, bolt on triangle base and it is a Bulldog. Mine is the top wind but Im thinking the sidewind looks more weatherproof. I live in Washington state My jack has gotten really hard to crank. Does the jack Im looking at have a way to grease it form time to time to maintain its ease of use?

Typically tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. Since your trailer weighs 9,760 lbs you would most likely have a tongue weight of 1,464 lbs. The etrailer.com Jack part # TJA-5000S-B that you referenced has a lifting capacity of 5,000 lbs so it would have more than enough capacity.

For side-wind models, the internal gearing and bushings of the jack must be kept lubricated at least annually. Apply a small amount of automotive grease to the internal gearing by removing the jack cover, or if equipped, use a needle nose applicator or standard grease gun on the lubrication point found on the side of the jack near the crank. Rotate the jack handle to distribute the grease evenly. A lightweight oil must be applied to the handle unit at both sides of the tube for side-wind models. If equipped, the axle bolt and nut assembly of the caster wheel must also be lubricated with the same light weight oil.
