Installing a Brake Controller on a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe with Factory 4-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
I have an 09 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 4 way plug at the rear. I want to install the Tekonsha Voyager brake controller. What else do I need and what are the proper procedures to follow? Thank You for any help you can offer as well as pics or diagrams.

The first thing you will need to install a trailer brake controller on your 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe is a 7-Way trailer connector. You will need installation kit # ETBC7 which comes with the 7-Way and the rest of the wiring and accessories needed to install the Voyager brake controller # 39510.
The 4-Way you have now will plug into the # ETBC7. Then the white wire will attach to the vehicle frame. The purple wire will attach to the reverse light wire (if the trailer needs reverse lights, otherwise this wire can be capped off and stowed out of he way). The blue wire will connect to the blue brake controller wire, and the black wire will connect to the positive battery terminal via the included 40 amp circuit breaker.
The brake controller white wire will go to the negative battery terminal. The black wire will go to the positive battery terminal via the included 20 or 30 amp circuit breaker. Blue, like I mentioned above, ultimately connects to the # ETBC7 blue wire. And the red wire connects to the cold side of the brake switch.
I have included some links that show and explain this installation for you. The video is on a 2014 Santa Fe but it will be the same for your 2009.
