Best Choice of Skid Wheels for Trailer With 4-Inch Hitch Tube

Question:

I need to get skid wheels for my Trailer. The hitch is 4 inches so if I get the bolt on kind I may have trouble fitting them. Do you have ones that can fit that? Also, I need them because our driveway is steep and we have to back in at an angle and use boards every time to get the trailer up the driveway. When buying skid wheels is it better to get rigid or swivel? If all the weight ends up on the skid wheels will the trailer swing around if using swivel?

Expert Reply:

If your trailer's 4-inch hitch tube is too large for a bracket-mount type skid wheel like Ultra-Fab # UF48-979017 then you can use one of the weld-on types like # UF48-979023 or # UF48-979021 or the bolt-on type # UF48-979015 that includes 4-3/4-inch-long mounting bolts.

Swivel-type skid wheels such as # UF48-979012 will not cause the trailer to swing since they will be engaging the ground only very briefly.
