Do I Need Sway Control for a 6800 Pound Travel Trailer Behind a 2005 Toyota Tundra
Question:
Im towing with a 2005 Toyota Tundra with a weight distribution hitch. The weight of the travel trailer is 6800 lbs. My buddy tows my trailer with a deisel powered dually and has no issues with sway. Do I need sway control equipment towing with the Tundra?

You may need some sort of sway control system. The diesel dually has two advantages. The wider tire and axle setup will make the trucks rear end more solid when talking about side to side movement. His truck also has a heavier suspension and it would take a significantly heavier trailer to get the truck to rock from trailer.
Depending on what weight distribution system you have, you may be able to use a Dual Cam sway control system. The Dual Cam systems significantly out-perform the friction system in that they are pro-active work to prevent sway in addition to correcting sway once it happens. Friction sway control systems are reactive and only work to stop sway after it has started.
Since your trailer is fairly light, you may be able to get away with with just a friction system. I have included a link to a page with all the sway control systems we carry so you can find a system that fits your needs.
Depending on your weight distribution head, you may not be able to use one of the friction systems. Your head would need to look like part # RP58112. There is an extra hole on the right hand size for a small ball for the friction sway control systems. If your head does not have this, you would have to buy a new head and friction system and then you would have spent as much as a dual cam system.
