5th Wheel Hitch Options for Use in 1992 Ford F-150 With Flareside 6-Foot Bed
Question:
What 5th wheel hitch will fit a 1992 f150 with flareside bed
asked by: Paul
Expert Reply:
Trucks like your 1992 F-150 that have a flare-side or step-side bed pose a challenge to fifth wheel installations. All of the Pro Series and Reese hitches we offer for your model year are excluded from fitting your truck due to the flare-side bed.
We do have one option that will work in your truck, the excellent B and W Fifth Wheel # BWRVK3400-5W that is rated for a gross towing weight of 18K (and 4500-lbs pin weight). This installs with their Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1150-5W that also doubles as a goose neck hitch, giving you towing flexibility in one USA-made package.
Do please note that this B and W hitch cannot be used with Sidewinder or Revolution pin boxes that are commonly used with short bed trucks. If your 5th wheel trailer has a standard pin box you are okay to use this B and W set-up. Instructions for both the hitch and install kit are linked for your reference.
