Can Brown Wire on Curt 2014 Mazda 3 Trailer Wiring Bypass the Module Box

Question:

Hi Ryan, I have one of these units in my 2014 Mazda 3 S Touring with LED tail lights and the tail light voltage no longer makes it through the box to the trailer. I tested the voltage on either side of the little circuit box and it was +10.5V on one side and roughly 0.5V on the other. Everything else works fine. Can I just splice the brown wire from either side of the box or do I need a new box in order to do something to the signal?

Hey Dave, thanks for reaching out!

The box on your Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55567 actually combines the brake light circuit with the turn signals to match the normal 4-Way wiring on a trailer, and it helps to protect your vehicle wiring from anything that might happen with the trailer wiring.

This model of wiring has the older Curt module so I recommend replacing your current wiring with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118405 on your 2014 Mazda 3 because the Tekonsha modules are more reliable.
