Swing Away Hitch Adapter With Spare Tire Rack For Van
Question:
Hello, We're looking at purchasing a 2024 camper van on a Ram 3500 Promaster Chassis. It doesn't have a spare tire and I'm wondering if there would be a swing out hitch adaptor that could accomadate the spare tire so we could utilize the van's back doors? If that is an option, could we put a spare tire mounted bike carrier on the spare?

Hi Dan,
What you can do is use a swing away extender and then add a hitch-mounted spare tire carrier. For that I recommend going with the Saris Swing Away Hitch Extender # SAR36VR with the etrailer Spare Tire Mount for Hitch # e98ZR.
The Saris extender has a 250 lb capacity and the spare tire mount is just 17 lbs so you can still carry a heavy spare for your van.
