Can Thule Swinging Bike Rack be Opened without Hitting Adjacent Parked Car
Question:
Can I fully open the swing away arm, when there are no bikes loaded, in a typical parking lot without hitting a vehicle that may be parked next to me while I load groceries, etc into the back of my 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan? Is there a halfway point the arm can be opened and locked into position with the locking pin that still allows clearance for the hatch to open to avoid impinging on the parking space next to mine if there is a vehicle in it?

If you were to park your 2006 Toyota Sienna so that the rear end is facing the driving lane of the parking lot and you had the arms folded down on the Thule # TH9027XT then it is entirely possible that the rack can swing open and not make contract with the adjacent vehicle. On most vehicles, when the rack arms are folded down, the rack would not extend out to the side of the vehicle beyond the side mirrors.
The rack does not have a half-way point that it can lock into. You could open it only as much as needed but it could potentially move.
