Why Does The Hub Bearing Kit # BK2-100 Come With A Cotter Pin
Question:
The mechanic who installs the bearing kit BK2-100 on my travel trailer remarked to me that there is a cotter pin included in the kit, but there is no hole through which it can go. Do you have any idea what he means by that?

Hey Glenn,
The Hub Bearing Kit # BK2-100 comes with a cotter pin and a tang washer so that you can prevent either a standard nut or castle nut from backing off, depending on the type of spindle you have. Lippert easy-lube axles have a hole through them for a cotter pin and castle nut, while Dexter axles won't have the hole for the cotter pin and instead use a regular nut and tang washer to prevent the nut from backing off. It doesn't hurt to hang onto the extra hardware incase you need it later on with different equipment.
