Which is a Better Supplemental Braking System the Blue Ox Patriot or the Demco Stay in Play DUO?
Question:
Hi Jerred Just a question about the flat tow braking options. What's your opinion on the Blue Ox Portable Flat Tow Braking system. I realize it's more money but wonder if it's a much simpler install? I have no idea. Is one system better than another at applying the brakes? Is the Blue Ox compatible? I already ordered the Demco but am still in a position to return it and reorder. What say you? Thanks

Hey Mike! Welcome back that is a great question. I am a big fan of both and at the end of the day they serve the exact same function as proportional braking systems. The main difference is going to be the installation process you're concerned about.
The Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # SM99251 is my go to choice for flat towers with a new or newer vehicle like your 2024 Canyon. If you plan on keeping it for awhile and don't plan to flat tow other vehicles I would stick with it. The DUO has a much more involved and complicated install but you only have to do it one time and all of the components are out of the way.
The Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System item # BLU37TR is what I recommend to flat towers that trade their vehicles every few years and plan to flat tow additional vehicles. The Patriot is a portable unit that can be removed and installed each time but this is also it's main disadvantage because it has to be set up and moved each time you hook up your truck.
The Blue Ox item # BLU37TR is also compatible with your 2024 GMC Canyon.

OK sounds good. I’ll stick to my guns as I definitely plan on keeping the rig and don’t plan on towing anything else. Thanks
