Will The Kick Sensor For Hands Free Lift Gate On a 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV Work After Receiver Install

Question:

The Mazda CX-90 PHEV 2024 features a hands-freeinch kicking motion under the rear bumper to open the power liftgate. Does this hitch interfere / disable this feature?

While we have not had a 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV in our shop with the hands free liftgate to test the exact function I can say most applications will not eliminate the use of the kick sensor. I installed our receiver on my Acura RDX which takes up a lot more of the space under the bumper with its visible cross tube and I can still use the kick sensor on mine to operate the hands free liftgate. You will likely find that you need to perform the kick motion on either side of the receiver tube and one side may work better than the other.

I do recommend installing the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C24ZV when you install the receiver. This will give you a 4-way which is the most common connector used on small trailer you might tow. It will also allow you to use Auxiliary Lights # C53201 with your hitch mounted accessories.

Thanks for the wiring kit, I am only planning to use a bike rack which does have a light connector (kuat rack), so would this require the same or different wiring kit?

@DanL I always recommend adding wiring as local laws are continuing to change and more and more places are requiring Auxiliary Lights # C53201. These lights are nice as they are universal and can be used for multiple applications. For bike racks especially they often can impair the view of your tail lights depending on the size of your bike. Since you mentioned your Kuat already has lights they are likely connected through the 4-way flat connector recommended above.
