Is Lower Voltage Output Expected From RV Taillight Input
Question:
I received my kit for towing my new 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. RM63MR and extra RO54FR for inner tail light into the tailgate. Here is my question… My vehicule is actually not with me and I tried the smart diode by applying 12 volts in the inputs and read the output with a voltmeter. Every voltages are related to the ground pin of the smart diode… 12V in Car Brake IN Car brake OUT read 12V = Normal 12V in RV Brake Car brake OUT read 12V = Normal 12V in RV Tail read 1.8V at Car Brake Out. Is this voltage OK to lit the LEDS tail lights, look low to me.

According to Roadmaster, the 1.8V reading is in the acceptable range on your # RO54FR. The smart diode has built in resistors which take the voltage down low like that. It gets especially low for the LED version since it takes very little to power an LED light. Once you install it on your vehicle you will find that everything works as intended.
