2017 Toyota Prius with nothing on the roof. Is this my first step to getting a cargo box?

Hey there Lisa, and yes, you're on the right track for getting a cargo box atop the roof of your 2017 Toyota Prius. The Inno rack you mentioned does indeed fit your Prius:

- Inno Square Crossbars # INB127

- Inno Feet for Square Crossbars # INSUT

- Custom Fit Kit # INK486

Since this rack uses square crossbars, the only other thing I really recommend is a wind fairing to dampen the wind noise and give you a peaceful journey. For that use the Inno Fairing # INA262.

With that, you're set to get a rooftop cargo box for your gear, and one that will go superbly with the Inno rack is the Inno Wedge Plus Rooftop Cargo Box # INBRM864MBK.

The Wedge is great because it has a uniquely aerodynamic shape which really cuts down on wind drag better than other cargo boxes. You can also open it from other side of your Prius, comes with locks so your gear is always safe, and is easy to take on and off with the use of simple clamps.
