Using TPMS Flow Through Sensors And Valve Extenders On A 2024 Ford F-450  

Question:

I have a 2024 Ford F-450 Limited that has the aluminum outer and steel inner rim. I want to add a TST flow through sensor to the metal valve stem, then add a kit like this onto the sensor so I can add more air if needed TST told me I had to add it at the valve stem and NOT at the end of the inflator kit. Do I need this kit or the other one that doesn’t have the 135 degree bend, for the project I’d like to do? Looking at pictures of the TST flow through sensors, they appear to add quite a bit of length to the end of the valve stem, so that’s where my concern comes in with this type of sensor and air inflator kit. Hi John,

TST Flow Through Sensors # TST-507-FT-S2 are approximately 2-1/8" long so they do add a bit to the overall length of the coming from the valve. TST likely told you that the sensor has to be directly after the valve to avoid any movement with the sensor that could damage it or the valve and to help prevent any false readings. With valve extenders like the Wheel Masters # WM8001-135 you'll be able to tuck the excess cable up since you'd be mounting the end of the extender to the hub.

As for the angle needed, there isn't a guide to tell us how your valve sits and which angle would be the best, but with dual wheel applications one with a 135 degree is very typical. Personally, I'd purchase the TPMS system first and get it installed so I could figure out the way to route the valve extender and what angle bend I'll need.

The # TST-507-FT-6-C will give you 6-flow sensors so that you can monitor each tire if your F-450 is DRW. If you have SRW then you can go with the # TST-507-FT-4 instead. If you'd rather not mount to the hub you could also go with hand hole-mounted extenders like part # WM8009. These would be specifically for the inner dually wheel and come with a clip to hold the extender in the hand hole to prevent the need for drilling.
