Installation of Tekonsha Voyager in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500
Question:
I have a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. It does not have the Z82 option listed on the sticker in the glove box. It does have a 7 wire round plug and a 4 wire plug at the rear of the vehicle. I bought a Tekonsha part #3025-P GM brake control harness. I have a Tekonsha Voyager XP with a Ford pigtail to install. I could not locate a brake controller wiring harnesss jumper under the left side of the instrument panel. I do not know what else I need and how to go about completing the wiring. Also under the hood I removed the cover from the electrical center - that did not give me access to Stud #1 and Stud #2. I appreciate any help you can give me. I have reviewed the FAQs which helped some.

It sounds to me as if you have a aftermarket 7-Way and 4-Way trailer connector installed on your vehicle. The Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connectors for Ford, GM Trucks, item # 30955, should be attached to the factory connector under the vehicle near the spare tire see link. This connection should provide all of the wiring to your trailer connector from the front of the vehicle, except for the blue brake feed wire if the connector is not factory installed.
The brake controller connection point, under the dash, is going to be in the electrical junction box see link. The adapter, item # 3025-S, or your # 3025-P, is plugged into the second slot from the left on the top row.
You will need to use the instructions on our How to Install a Brake Controller on Chevrolet / GMC 1999-2006 Pickups page see link and scroll down to the section on vehicles without a factory 7-Way to complete your wiring, if the 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle is not factory installed. The power studs will be on the left side of the electrical junction box under the hood and you will need to cut the connector off of the blue wire and run a 10 gauge wire, item # 10-1-1, to the trailer brake connection in the 7-Way at the rear of the vehicle.
