Recommended Replacement Brake Hubs and Brakes for a Dexter 7K Axle

Hello, I am looking to purchase new brakes and bearings for my trailer. It has 7000lb Dexter torsion axles, serial number 6610612. They are old, and I’m unsure if they are grease or oil bath hubs. Thanks, Geoff

I wasn't able to find anything relating to that part number and since you're unsure of what you have I'd just recommend swapping the entire hub to make everything easier. You're just going to need to choose the hubs that have your current wheel studs.

For 1/2" studs with a grease cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3,
For 1/2" studs with an E-Z lube cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3-EZ,
For 1/2" studs with an oil bath hub you'll want # 8-219-9UC3,

For 9/16" studs with a grease cap you'll want # AKHD-865-7-1-K,
For 9/16" studs with an E-Z lube cap you'll want # 8-219-13UC3,

&

For 5/8" wheel studs with an E-Z lube cap you'll want # 8-219-18UC3.

All of these kits will come with new brake hubs, bearings, races, seals, caps, and wheel nuts. For replacement brakes I recommend going with the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-464-465 which is self adjusting and does not require you to periodically adjust them.

Dexter recommends a SAE 90, SAE 80W-90 or SAE 75W-90 oil to be used. I recommend the Kodiak Synthetic Bearing Oil for Oil Bath Hubs #XLPROLUBE as it is a synthetic 90 weight oil that helps reduce friction and to keep bearings cool. Since your cap was…

In order to determine the torque rating for the lug nuts on your trailer you will need to know check out the chart I attached that shows all of the torque specs for all the trailer lugs available based on stud size, wheel material and wheel size.
