What Wheel Width Does Trailer Tire Size 225/75R15 Fit

Question:

Re: fitment question I have a 2002 WW two horse, two axel trailer. The build plate says it is equipped with 225/15 tires on 5x15 rims. The rims are all white no pinstripe mod Dexter 5x15 JJ 5 on 4 1/2 and the tires are ST225/75R15. I’m looking to get all new wheels and tires and I want to keep the factory/oem look. I’m interested in Dexstar am20443 rims and Kenda karrier lodestar ST225/75R15 am10256 tires. I’ve noticed two different expert opinions on the etrailer website as to whether that size tire will fit on a 5in wide rim. One expert Mike L. says “ a 225/75-15 tire will fit on a wheel that’s 5, 6, 6 -1/2, or 7 inches wide.” Another expert says “The ST225/75R-15 tire will fit a 6, 6-1/2, and 7 inch rims but not a 5 inch rim.” This seems contradictory so which is it? Also is Dexter and dexstar the same brand? I screen shot both opinions but can’t figure out how to attach them to this.

Expert Reply:

Sorry for any confusion but your tire size of 225/75R15 can fit on 15 inch diameter wheels that are between 5 and 7 inches in width. So the Dexstar trailer wheel part # AM20443 would work for you. Dexter and Dexstar are different companies.
