Troubleshooting A Tekonsha Prodigy P3 That Will Not Turn On
Question:
I have a prodigy 3 brake controller and it’s not powering up. I have power going to the unit but it will not come on. I only used it 2-3 times since purchasing it and haven’t used it in a year or so but worked fine when last used. Any ideas why it’s not working, or is there a way to reset it maybe? Thanks for your time.

It is possible to reset the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 by unhooking your trailer and unplugging the controller for 15 minutes. If you are 100% sure you are getting power, but the screen does not turn on, in some cases a reset will correct this. We also recommend checking your trailer connections and thoroughly cleaning the contacts on both the vehicle and trailer side. Sometimes corrosion can cause issues with the brake controller, and since it has not been used in a long time, this will definitely be worth checking.
If you check all of this and the controller still does not turn on, it is likely an internal issue with the controller and it will need to be replaced. Thankfully they do come with a lifetime warranty.
