How To Power A Trailer Connector On A Towed Vehicle

Question:

I have a 2024 2 door Jeep Wrangler that I am setting up for flat towing. I will be using Curt harness, C96JR, to tie the RV lights to the Jeep tail lights. I want to put our bike rack on the Jeep while being towed. The bike rack has a 6 pin connector for brake and turn signals on the bike rack but they only work for a few seconds with the engine off when plugged into the standard Jeep trailer plug in the back of the jeep. Is there a way to get the bike rack lights to run with the Jeep engine off while being towed?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Towed vehicle wiring, like the Curt Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # C96JR, only sends power to the tail lights and wouldn't be sending anything to the trailer connector. You would need to wire a second connector to the back of the Jeep, like part # 47565, and splice it into the tail light wiring with some bonded wire # 16-4B-1 in order to get the signals from the lights for the bike rack.
