Should A Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Have Power When The Button Is Depressed

Question:

Kevin, Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it! I have a question though. Is that a normally open or normally closed switch? Full disclosure: I knew I wouldn’t get it in time if I ordered it from etrailer. I wanted to install it with all the other stuff I got from you guys. Figured, hey, I’ll just get the same part on Amazon. That way I’ll have it in time. Well, I put it in and when the brake is depressed (button out) 0v. Brake off (button depressed), 12v. It doesn’t make sense unless I got the wrong switch. So, looks like I’m going to be ordering from you anyways. Haste makes waste. I am correct that this is not the proper operation? I’ll probably order before you get this…and hopefully you’ll still answer even though I went with Amazon over etrailer. I’m still all about etrailer. That’s for sure. Thanks again!

The Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751490 sits against the front of the brake pedal post so that when the brakes are depressed it releases the button on the switch and completes the circuit, sending out the signal that the brakes are being activated in the vehicle. If you're getting power when the button on the switch is depressed and not when it's released that would lead me to believe that you either have the wrong switch or have a faulty one and would need to replace it.
