Recommended Flat Towing Set Up for a 2016 Chevy Traverse

Question:

I have a 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire RV and a 2016 Chevy Traverse. What do you recommend for towing the Traverse? Thanks

We'll start out making sure your RV has a hitch and wiring harness in case you don't already have them installed.

To add a hitch to your 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire RV, you will want the Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C13701. This is a universal hitch that has a 5,000 lbs towing capacity, which is just enough to tow your Traverse. There are no custom fit hitches for your RV.

For a 7-way you'll have to hardwire one in using the Universal Wiring Harness w/ ModuLite and Brake Controller Harness item # 22551.

To flat tow your 2016 Chevrolet Traverse you will need the following parts:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar item # RM-520 and item # RM-643

Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms item # RM-523175-5

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267

Supplemental Braking System - Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System item # BLU37TR and item # RM-9332

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.
