Recommended 3,500LB Axle For Mounting On a Ironton 5' X 8' Trailer

Question:

Is it possible to install an axle that is 89inch hub face on an Ironton 5x8 trailer that normally uses a 72inch hub face axle? I want to upgrade my trailer to 3500lb capacity and the only one I see listed is T3584F-EZ-8974 which shows 74inch spring center and 89inch hub face. Will the extra 8inch or so of axle extending beyond the trailer frame cause an issue? Thank you!

I do have a recommendation for you as you will not want to use the longer 89" hub face axle. This would cause the axle to easily bend since you would have to relocate the spring perches so far inward there would be additional stress on the axle tube.

I recommend looking at the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension w Idler Hubs # A35RS545. This is a better option as it will give you a much better suspension than traditional leaf springs. The unit will bolt to the trailer frame and places the hub face 6" our from the frame and the axle center line will be 3-13/16" below the bottom of the frame. The axle includes idler hubs with the common 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.
