Great question. For a 2900 lb truck bed camper I definitely recommend going with air bags. Air bags give you adjustability and allow you to fine tune your suspension. This is especially advantageous when you have a camper in the bed since you may have to compensate for a slightly uneven load. For your 2008 Ram 3500 I recommend the Air lift ultimate # AL88297. This is 5,000 lb capacity kit. The air bags feature internal jounce springs which add stability, and also act as a failsafe if you ever were to lose pressure. With this installed, you will be able to get your truck darn near perfectly level, which will have a dramatic effect on ride quality and handling. This kit includes two standard air valves which can be mounted on the rear of the vehicle.

You have the option to add an onboard compressor. For that I recommend the Air lift # AL58WQ. This is a wireless compressor that is Bluetooth compatible. So all you need is a smartphone with the Air lift app. I really like the air lift app it give you full control and real time diagnostic at your fingertips. Also this is a dual path compressor, which allows you to inflate each air bag independently. So if your camper is loaded unevenly, you can compensate and keep your ride perfectly level.

We have a few install/review videos which I have linked below.
