Is The 4,000LB Replacement Strap Correct For a 4,500LB Boat With a Fulton F2 Winch?

Question:

I have a Fulton f2 and need a replacement stro. My boat is a Tige 24ve, 4,500lbs, 24foot long Is a 4000lb strap strong enough? This is what a local trailer parts place ordered as a replacement for me. I feel like it should at least be as strong as the boat weighs. Also, can I reel 30foot of strap on this winch? I have searched numerous places for a stronger strap but the only one Ive found in stock is 30. How long should a strap be?

Expert Reply:

The highest capacity Fulton F2 Winch is only rated for 3,200lbs so using a 4,000lb Strap # F501204 is going to be enough. You do need to remember you are not lifting 4,500lbs vertically with the strap. You are sliding the load either across bunk boards or rollers which take significantly less effort than lifting the weight of the boat. It does appear you will only be able to use a 20' strap like the one above. This is due to the housing on the jack.
