Recommended Reese Goose Box Adapter for a 5th Wheel Trailer w/ a 1621 Pin Box

Question:

I have a 2022 Keystone Cougar half ton 5th wheel, with the Road armor pin box, that has the flex head, on the stickers it shows LCI item # 7996261, RFO # 0008394225, chassis MFG 5-5-22. Will this Goose box fit my RV? I know that this pin box shows 18K capacity, but the trailer sticker only shows a GVWR/PNBV of 10k. I dont think i need to go to the 20K, but if so, I would think that is this 16K will fit my RV then the 20K would too.

Thanks for all of the information! I called Lippert and your Keystone Cougar has a 1621 pin box with a 15,500 lbs capacity. You will need the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter item # RP85FR. As of 7/10/23 this pin box is back ordered a couple of months due to Reese's parent company being bought out. This goosebox has a 20,000 lbs capacity which will work great and not affect the comfort or safety of your truck or trailer because it is over capacity.

If you're needing to swap out your pin box sooner, another option is to use the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box item # GY56FR. This shock-absorbing pin box is also a gooseneck adapter. It doesn't have air bags like the Reese Gooseboxes so you won't have to worry about replacing them down the road or messing with air pressure.

To tow a trailer with a gooseneck connection you will also need the Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks item # RP49151. These are required by law and none of the goosebox adapters include them.
