Is There a Way To Mount a Rhino-Rack Platform Roof Tray to a 2013 Ford Transit w/ Minimal Height

Question:

I want to install a Pioneer roof rack, 72inch by 56inch on my Ford 2013 Transit Connect XLT using low profile feet. I want the rack to clear my garage door opening and have only 3 1/2 inches. The Transit roof has 4, M8 I think OEM anchor points, to now, unused. If I could use those it would be great, because after 10 years, I have not yet drilled any holes into the body. My ultimate goal is to buy the ladder that goes with the rack and use the rack for star gazing and sleeping. No tent. No other stuff on top. Is this possible? Ive been looking for years for a rack low enough to accomplish this I bought the Transit new, converted it into a camper, and took it to Alaska in 2014, and Im hoping that the Pioneer will do the trick. It even has a ladder! If need be, Ill have professionals help with the installation. Thank you in advance.

With only having 3.5" of clearance, I am not sure if there is a way to accomplish this. The Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Roof Tray # RR52TB is 2" tall by itself, which rules out being able to attach it to a roof rack. This means you would need to use a fit kit.

The issue with the fit kit is that according to the manufacturer, the oldest model with a compatible fit kit is the 2014 and newer model years of the Transit which would be the RCL Legs for Rhino-Rack Crossbars and Pioneer Platforms # RRRCL4. These add another 1.5", which puts you are your max of 3.5" before adding the Custom RCP Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack RC and RV Series Roof Rack Legs # RRRCP47-BK. While the # RRRCP47-BK adds minimal height to your system, the fact that you are already at the max height before them will put you over. Plus, they are not a confirmed fit for your 2013 Transit.

Honestly with your height restrictions, you will likely need to have something fabricated to use the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Roof Tray # RR52TB. You will just need to keep in mind that the fabrication could void any warranty claims should they arise.
