Fitting the Junior Locking Door Latch # L1833 on a Homemade Tear Trailer with 1/2 Inch Door Trim

Question:

I need to install the latch so that there is room for 1/2inch trim around the door. It looks like the hole for the latch needs to be very close to the door edge so how will this work? This is for a homemade tear trailer. Thanks

The position of the Junior Locking Flush Door Latch, # L1833, will depend on the type of door you are installing it on. If the edge of the door on the trailer is going to be flush with the inside of the of the door jamb on the trailer, then this door latch would not allow enough room for a 1/2 inch piece of trim. The edge of this door latch would have to be flush with the edge of the door.

If your door overlaps the door jamb at all, then you would simply position the door latch in a location where it will engage the door jamb. These types of doors typically leave enough room for some type of door trim. If you can send me a photo of the door on your tear drop trailer and of the location where you intend to mount the latch, I would be happy to see if this latch will work or if we have another door latch that will work for you.

If you determine that this latch will interfere with the door trim, it may be possible to slide the door trim over the flange of the latch. It is not very thick (.04 inches).
