Recommended Bike Rack for Electric Bike on 2023 Land Rover Defender

Hi There! Im looking for a bike rack that will carry my pedego bike on my Land Rover Defender. The spare tire requires that the bike rack be extended from the hitch farther than usual. When I enter my car information, the Thule Easy Fold comes up, but Im wondering if I need a hitch extender. Also, Im wondering if a hitch extender is a secure way to mount a bike rack. Thanks!

I would love to give you an exact recommendation on a bike rack that would work for you but unfortunately I cannot as there are simply too many variables. For example, there are many different types of Pedego Bikes and there isn't one rack that works with them all. The rear spare tire is also going to be an issue, you'd need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the spare tire. From there, you can compare this to the dimensions we have on a lot of the bikes racks, the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier (folded down). Furthermore, most bike rack manufactures don't recommend using extenders but you might not have an option.
The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes part # HLY84FR would be a good starting point as it works with bikes up to 80 lbs, tires up to 5" wide, and a wheelbase up to 60". The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier is 7-1/2". If you need an extender, the Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension part # Y69VR is the best option.
