Customer Feedback and Installation Tips for the Tow Ready Wiring Harness on 2004 Volkswagen Taureg
Question:
The instructions are not very helpful. I eventually decided that the entire T needs to be outside the car body, not just the one connector. There is room for this if you place the connectors correctly under the tail lights, where there is some spare room basically, inboard near where the screws holding the lens are. The lens is hard to get off even after you remove the two screws. You must move the lens straight towards the rear to avoid breaking any plastic bits. I used a small wooden wedge to pry it back. If you have to remove a connector it is easy to break it, because you have to pry with a screwdriver. Be very careful, and maybe have help pulling the connector off while you pry. On the one side where I did break it, it does not come off any more however I can still remove the small panel on the lens to replace bulbs so it doesnt matter. Whoever designed these connectors should be roasting in Hell... I did not like working on the drivers side. I spliced in an extra 5 feet of wires on the yellow/brown side so it was just as long as the red/green side that way I could put the unit on the passenger side.
