Does the Curt Rack Receiver # C92NR Require the Kick Sensor to Be Disabled on a 2023 Toyota BZ4X

Question:

The Toyota manual says that the kick open back hatch will have to be disabled to connect a hitch. Is that true with this product?

I pulled up the owners manual online to try and verify the kick open needing to be disabled and was not able to locate that specifically. But I was able to find that the kick sensor is located behind the lower, center part of the rear bumper.

This would make sense for the kick sensor to be disabled because that is exactly where the receiver of the Curt Rack Receiver # C92NR will sit. Which will block your kick sensor and cause it to not function. My guess would be that Toyota wants the sensor disabled to not cause any issues, since the sensor will not be accessible with a hitch installed.

This is not specifically stated in the instructions for the Curt receiver, but we do recommend following the manufacturers recommendations/requirements. Whether that be the hitch manufacturer or the vehicle manufacturer.
