Help Wiring Up the Curt Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger

Question:

I just ordered a Breakaway kit from you. Where do I connect the black wire from the Blue/ Black Breakaway unit? Does it go to a ground / black wire? Also, the battery charger red wire, I hooked it up to My 12V positive battery side. But it’s not charging up. My white wire I direct wired it to the trailer frame. Is that Okay? Blue went to the blue line with the breakaway blue And Blue on the trailer hookup. Ok on that too?

In regards to the Curt Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger part # C52044, the wires from the breakaway switch are not polarity specific. In other words, it does not matter which wire you attach to which circuit so long as one is attached to the blue wire from the battery box and the other to the brake output circuit between the trailer brakes and trailer connector. The other wires from the battery box are white and red, the white goes to ground and the red wire goes to the trailer battery charge line circuit. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what color wires are what on the trailer as the trailer manufacturer could have used any number of colors. That said, there are some standards which you can see in the help article below.

If the breakaway battery isn't charging, that means you either have the wrong wire hooked up or the circuit is not functioning properly. This is all covered in your copy of the instructions if you need further assistance.
