Recommended Replacement Wiring Harness for a 2020 Kia Sportage
Question:
what can be done to protect the trailer converter box from shorting out from bad trailer wiring. trailer take a lot of abuse and the wiring is on a trailer is not ideal. the fuse will protect the vehicle but by then the converter is shot. 40-80 bucks for a new harness. I want to protect the converter also. My T-one on my 2020 kia sportage is shot.

As much as you don't want to hear it there's no way to protect the converter box from bad trailer wiring. You wouldn't plug a brand new computer into an outlet that is sparking and constantly shorting out. You're going to need to fix your trailer or you'll keep frying wiring harnesses and pricey converter boxes. I recommend starting at the 4-way connector and working your way back towards your rear lights and fix every fault and frayed wire along the way. Especially check your grounds. They need to be firmly attached to a bare piece of metal. If yours have rusted over or corroded make a new one or clean it off. If you need to replace your wiring you will want the 35 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness item # A35W42B.
I do recommend going away from a Tekonsha harness in your Sportage and using the Curt T-Connector item # C56321. Curt's harnesses have been more reliable in the last few years.
