Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2017 Ford F150 4x4 Towing Airstream Flying Cloud

Question:

I have a 2017 Ford F150 4x4, 3.5 liter, tow package, 3.11 rear end. I currently pull an Airstream Basecamp 20X and use an Equalizer WDH. It is very stable and I have had no problems. I am upgrading to an Airstream Flying Cloud 27RBT. The dealer says I shouldn’t have a problem with my half ton truck but I am concerned about hitch weight. Therefore, I am considering airbags to help alleviate the pressure on the rear. I would like to be able to adjust the air pressure so that my ride is okay when not pulling a trailer. What do you suggest?

Helpful Expert Reply:

If you have a properly rated Equalizer WDH for your new Airstream Flying Cloud 27RBT that should be enough to keep the truck level with the tongue weight of the trailer on the hitch. Normally going with suspension enhancement as well as a WD system isn't needed but some people still do it and it does provide rear suspension with more support.

What I would suggest is actually the RoadActive kit part # RAS3611-YHD for your 2017 Ford F-150. The RAS kits are basically the total package when it comes to improving suspension. You get the adjustable support, an easier install, less maintenance than air bags, more reliable (in reference to leaks), and you get improved ride quality and handling when towing and not towing.
