Will the Yakima BigCatch Kayak Roof Rack Work with Lighter Sit-In Kayaks

Question:

Good day. I am considering the Yakima Big Catch for my fishing kayak that weighs about 80 pounds including the seat. After loading a few things into it, it may outweigh some of the other Yakima offerings’ capacities. However, I also have a lighter touring style kayak that weighs about 45-50 lbs. Just wondering if the Big Catch will handle the lighter boat and protect it during transportation. Just concerned that the Big Catch saddles are engineered for higher weights and won’t adjust/conform to the lighter boat causing the boat to be less “connected” to my rack bars. Any info you can lend will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The Yakima BigCatch Kayak Roof Rack part # Y04091 is designed for heavier sit on top fishing kayaks. These types of kayaks have a much flatter hull than your standard recreational sit-in kayak. The carrier will still work with this style and you don't have to worry about it falling off but there are better options for this style like the Yakima DeckHand Kayak Roof Rack part # Y04083-2. The BigCatch will work for both but if you are that concerned with security, just get the BigCatch for the sit-on and the DeckHand for the sit-in.
