Karrier Load Range D Tire Recommendation for a Double Axle Boat Trailer

Question:

Hello, I currently have a P195/75R14 auto tire on a 14inch x 6inch wheel for my double axle boat trailer. This tire is not build for this heavy of a boat so wanted to try the AM10235 Karrier ST205/75R14 - Load Range D tire. The spec does not say it will fit a 6inch wide wheel. Please verify. Also the size change from 195 to 205 is just .2inch difference in the diameter I checked the fender well clearance and it looks OK, any other areas I should check? Thank you,

The tire size ST205/75R14 will fit a 6 inch wide 14 inch diameter wheel. If you have the clearance I would strongly recommend you go with the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 since not only is this tire higher rated than what you have it is also rated for use on a trailer unlike the P195/75R14 that you are currently running which is designed to be used on passenger vehicles. That is what the P stands for at the beginning of the size.

Trailer tires have stiffer sidewalls to accommodate the higher vertical load trailers usually see. It is important to always inflate your trailer tires to their max psi. If a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than the maximum, the amount of weight that the tire can carry will be reduced. If a heavier load is put on the trailer tire than what is recommended for that air pressure, the sidewall of the tire could heat up and cause the tire to fail.

I attached a couple FAQ articles on trailer tires for you to check out also.
