Can An Advent Air RV Air Conditioner Unit Be Installed On A Van
Question:
Hi, I am converting a van and this AC appears to be exactly what I need. Is it a 12v AC unit? How much does it weigh?

The air conditioners we carry, like the Advent Air # ACM150 you were looking at, all require 30 amp AC service in order to operate. Installing an Advent Air Unit on anything other than a camper trailer or motorhome will also void the warranty so you would want to use another brand, like Furrion # FR92PR.
This unit weighs approximately 55lbs and would require you to do a bit of framing in order to properly secure the unit. You would also most likely need to thicken up the roof since this unit will require a roof thickness of 3.5" to 6" thick. A generator or shore power pedestal would be required in order to run your unit for any substantial amount of time since they can easily drain batteries.
The only thing you'd really be able to power off of 12v DC power is a roof vent like the MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe # MA00-06200K. It's very common to install 12v vents like these on a van and we even have a few installation videos, which I've attached below, to help walk you through the process. The cover on this vent will allow you to use it while driving or during inclement weather unlike other roof vent models.
