Do I Need Sumo Springs on Both Front and Rear Axle Using Weight Distribution on 2017 Chevy Colorado

Question:

If Im running a trailer with a weight distribution hitch, do I need to run sumo springs only in the rear, or does the front also need a modification? Will a level truck with sumo springs in the rear be under-loaded on the front axle? My 2017 Colorado z71 runs level when towing but the ride is extremely harsh on rough roads, and the truck bucks in construction zones.

Expert Reply:

A weight distribution system will transfer weight from the rear axle to the front axle on the tow vehicle but it won't be enough to sag the front suspension and engage the jounce spring most likely. Therefore, you would only want SumoSprings on the rear axle, even when using a weight distribution system. I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-212-40 or part # SS85FR for models with a diesel engine.

The suspension supports will engage first, then you'll set the spring bar tension so you don't have to worry about having too much weight on the front axle.
