Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch and Install Kit for 2013 Ram 2500 Long Bed Towing 12K Fifth Wheel

Question:

I have a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500, Long Bed. My primary towing need will be a 12,000 lb RV with a 1680 lb pin weight. However, I want the ability to tow anything within the limits of this particular Dodge. Id like to purchase the Draw Tite 6021 hitch. Two questions: 1. Is there any reason this hitch would be unsuitable? 2. Does it use standard universal rails? Thank you.

The Reese RP30033 5th wheel hitch you referenced is indeed compatible with the industry standard fifth wheel rails, and given the description of the fifth wheel you mentioned, a hitch of this type would be perfect for your needs. The hitch has plenty of capacity to spare, which would be great if you upgrade to a heavier trailer in the future. The hitch also includes the wiring harness w/ 7-way trailer connector that mounts through the sidewall in the truck bed.

You would also need the installation kit, part # RP56011-53 that includes the bed rails and brackets that attach the rails to the frame members. The # RP56011-53 is a custom install kit, specifically designed to attach to the frame members of your Ram.

With the addition of a gooseneck adapter plate like the Curt item # 16055 , you would be able to tow just about anything, as long as it does not exceed the towing capacity of the truck or the weight capacity of the hitch.
