Can I Still Use My Companion With My New Truck Or Do I Have To Start Over With A New Hitch

Question:

I recently bought a small 5th wheel trailer. Grand Design 226RK. Dealer installed a BandW Companion RVK3500. The truck 2011 F250 already had BandW gooseneck/5th wheel setup with turnover ball. I just bought a new GMC 2500. The setup is different. Is there a practical way to adapt my current hitch to the truck, or am I better off starting over with a new hitch? Thanks for your help.

It's really going to depend on what the setup is in your new GMC Sierra 2500. If you have base rails, like part # C16429-204, then your Companion # BWRVK3500 would not be able to adapt to fit the base rails and you would instead need a hitch like the B&W Patriot # BWRVK3255 or # BWRVK3270 if you have a short bed.

If you have the OEM prep package have pucks in the bed of your Sierra then you'll need to swap the base of your Companion with the # BWRVB3710 or # BWRVB3775 if you have a short bed. This way you'll only be paying for the base and can just reuse the head of the hitch to save a bit of money.

If you have nothing in the bed you can install a B&W Turnoverball hitch # BWGNRK1020-5W and continue to use your Companion.

If you have something different or just don't know what you have then send me some pictures and I can identify what's in place and what you'll need going further.
