The Washer from TruRyde Bearing Kit # BK1-150 Does not Fit on the Spindle

Question:

this washer will not fit over the axle since the bent portion appears that it could only be used with an axle with a flat on it. How necessary is it?

The tang washer included with the TruRyde Bearing Kit, # BK1-150, was designed to work with EZ Lube spindles. Easy lube spindles have a flattened portion on the threads (see photo) so they can use a tang washer to hold the nut in place. Non-EZ Lube spindles will have a hole through the threads and use a cotter pin to hold the nut in place, rather than a tang washer.

If your spindle does not have a flattened section on the threads, but has the grease fitting on the end, then you may have a Sure Lube spindle. Sure Lube spindles are similar to EZ Lube spindles, but they do not use a tang washer. If you have a Sure Lube spindle, you could use a standard round washer, like part # SW1000, with a castle spindle nut and the included cotter pin.

If you do not have a grease fitting at the end of the spindle, then you do not have an EZ Lube spindle or a Sure Lube spindle and you would use the cotter pin and a separate nut and washer.
