Recommended Sliding Hitch for a 2022 Ford F-250 w/ Factory Puck System

Question:

Hi, I have a 2022 Ford F250 short bed with the OEM gooseneck and puck system. It will be towing a 2019 Northwoods Fox Mountain 235RLS. The Fox Mountain has a Rota-Flex pin box. The dry hitch weight is about 1950 lbs. I got the OEM gooseneck and puck system because I wanted no obstacles in the bed when not towing. My research has led me to inquire about the Reese Goose Box. While the BandW and other manufactures options look good, I cant seem to get my head around the fact that the units weigh anywhere between 150 and 300 pounds. While my wife can help with removal and installation its just not optimal. My questions are will this unit work with a short-bed, and what type of maneuvering limitations are there? If does work, should I purchase the 16 or 20K? Love your web site it provides newbies like me a wealth of information.

Since your F-250 has the short bed you are going to want to go with a sliding hitch like the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3370. The Companion will give you 12" of travel for making tight turns and backing.

A Reese Goosebox will have a comparable profile as the Rota-Flex pin box you currently have. Having a short bed you are going to encounter clearance issues with turning. The goosebox will address your concerns about a 5th wheel hitch but it will not help your clearance.

I know the weight of any 5th wheel hitch is a pain. The Companion Slider is no different. It weighs in at 262 lbs. Having another person is always helpful but I suggest using the B&W 5th Wheel Lifting Device for Companion Hitches item # BWRVXA3130. This heavy duty steel tool lets you lift your B&W 5th-wheel hitch from your truck bed with a hoist. The 5th-Wheel jaws clamp around the device for a secure grip.

I have linked a couple pictures below of the lifting device being used and also an installation video for the Companion Slider. Feel free to email me back with any other questions or concerns.
