Will SportRack Frontier Semi-Custom Roof Rack # A21002S Fit 1998 Mitsubishi Montero with Naked Roof

Question:

Just wanted to ask if this roof rack should fit this vehicle, bare roof, no factory rails. I will be taking them overseas so just wanted to be sure. When I enter the info for my vehicle, I am directed to a page explaining the rack types available but this rack is not listed on there. I recently bought a hitch kit from you too that I took overseas and was very pleased with the quality, fast service and price. Good work. Thank you!

The SportRack Frontier Semi-Custom Roof Rack # A21002S does not appear on our site among the roof rack options for your 1998 Mitsubishi Montero with Naked Roof because this rack system is not a fit for it. The 50-inch crossbars are too short for the Montero; the shortest bars that will work on your vehicle are 54-inches.

The link provided will take you to our main page for all roof rack systems that are compatible with your 1998 Montero with naked roof.

A cost-effective option is the round bar rack from Yakima, consisting of parts # Y00409 and # Y00101. This rack uses 58-inch round steel crossbars and has a 165-lb weight capacity. Both crossbar types offer good compatibility with a broad range of rack-mount accessories such as cargo boxes and bike carriers.

It is a good idea to check your owners manual for any guidance or restrictions regarding the Montero roof weight-carrying capacity. It is important that you do not exceed the capacity of either the vehicle or the rack you choose. Total loaded cargo weight must always be within the lower of the two ratings.

The included article on roof racks may be helpful to you as you consider your preferences and cargo requirements. If you would like recommendations for any compatible roof-top accessories please let me know.
