How to Ground the PTW2993 Circuit Tester When Testing an RV Stereo

Question:

I wish to test my Jensen AWM 975 for 12V input with a PTW2993 circuit tester. I understand how to connect the 12v hook end to the red #3 wire but where do I put the ground clip end? Do I place the ground on the black #1 ground terminal of the wiring harness? I don’t believe there is another ground available in my trailer wooden stereo cabinet. Also, how do I test for ground on this radio with the Ptw2993?

When using the Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to test your Jensen AWM975 stereo, the ground clip just needs to be attached to something metal to ground the tester. As long as the ground wire on the stereo is properly grounded, you could also use that wire.

The Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 is not really designed to test for ground. However, it is testing for ground in a way. If you ground the tester to a ground source outside of the stereo and then test the power wire to ensure there is power, you could then ground the tester to the ground wire on the stereo. If you test for power with the tester grounded to the stereo and the power is no longer present, then the ground is bad.
