Our awning frame is 17 ft wide, but the actual awning fabric is about 16.5 ft wide. Will the 17 ft sized sun shade work?

The 17 foot is too wide; the correct width for the shade screen depends on the width of the fabric, so for your 16-1/2 foot awning fabric you need the Solera RV Awning Shade Screen - Zip-Off Front Panel - 15' Wide x 8' Tall # LC3797820815.
