Do the Lights Have to be Removed to Close the Carrier Arms on the Exo Swing Away Systems?
Question:
Hello and thank you for your time, I really like the Yakima Exo system and am researching this tail light and license plate add on, but all of the photos and videos show the lamps installed when the carrier retention arms are in the carryinch position. But if I dont need a box/rack and stow the retention arms, do the lights/plate reposition? Or would I need to remove the lights and relocate the license place back to the vehicle i.e., only works when arms are in carry position Thank you again

The License Plate and Tail Light Relocation Kit item # Y74VR takes away the option to close the carrier arms when they are not in use. If you wanted to close the arms you would need to remove the brackets for the lights. This is done with two easy to use knobs on each side.
This kit is compatible with the Yakima EXO Swing Away 2 Bike Rack w/ Enclosed Cargo Carrier item # Y34ZR and any other Exo Swing Away configuration. You will need to move the lights out to the farthest two bolt holes when using the bike rack.
I have linked an installation and review video below. Right at the 6:25 minute mark your question is directly addressed.
