Where Does Brake Controller Install 2018 GMC Sierra
Question:
Hi Folks I have a 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 with factory integrated brake controller, which fails frequently. Approximately end of June or early July 2021, I bought the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional, Part #90195. I also bought the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers Item # 3016. I bought this as a back-up. You can see my question when I bought this at: https://www.etrailer.com/question-523521.html?fb=yes I mounted the controller and ran blue wire through conduit from under the drivers dash to the rear of the truck where the trailer wiring splits to two plugs - one above the rear bumper and one in the truck bed. I continued to use the factory system until it failed this morning. I assumed the hardest part is running the blue wire to the rear, which was completed a year ago so I could just plug, do a few wire splices and go. I pulled the cover off where it is supposed to plug in. Im uncertain where it plugs in, and there is a yellow wire already connected to where I thinkfoot the plug on the Plug-In Wiring Adapter is supposed to go. Tell me if I have the correct place to plug the in. Im attaching pictures. Im hopeful that you can confirm that the plug does go where the yellow wire is, and that you can tell me what the yellow wire is for and where it should go after I plug in the Plug-In Wiring Adapter. Any help would be appreciated.

The port you have circled in your picture is the correct location to install the # 3016 on your 2018 GMC Sierra 3500. IT is really odd you have a random yellow wire ran to it currently and it's hard to say what it is there for but if you pull it out and test the pin it plugs into with a # PTW2992 to see when it has voltage you might get a clue. My guess is there's something aftermarket installed on the truck that is using that pin as a 12 volt power source like a stereo amp.
