Replacing 4-Way Flat Connector With No White Ground Wire Causing Lights To Turn Off
Question:
I use a 4 pin connector. Only three wires are on the connector. No white wire. Lights works but will turn off when hitting bumps. From what I gather, I need a ground. How do I install a ground to the connector? Or do I need to change the connector? Or is it a whole different issue and I have it wrong? Youre help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are correct that you need a ground wire for your 4-way flat connector. When you are hitting bumps the coupler for the ball has a small amount of play inside which is causing your lights to turn off and on. The Hopkins Wiring Harness # HM38138 will give you a short 4' lead which you can splice into your trailer wiring and run the white wire to a good ground location on the trailer. This will ensure a good solid ground connection for the wiring on the trailer. The Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05744-5 will give you a water tight connection.
If it is your vehicle side connector missing the white wire we have the Harness # HM48035 you can use on the vehicle side. This is similar to the connector above but for the vehicle side.
