Trailer Hitch Receiver Weight Options For Factory Class III Bumper On a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic
Question:
I have a 2019 Ram 1500 5.7L Classic. In reviewing the build sheet for the truck, it has all the wiring and connections for towing, the tubular structure that surrounds the spare tire looks just like a tow hitch minus the receiver is present and the build sheet indicates 2TG Customer Preference Package is present on the build. My question is, can I purchase this item, attach it to the existing structure and achieve the advertised towing capacities or will I need to purchase a whole new assembly tubular portion? I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

The tubular assembly you have on your 2019 Ram 1500 classic is for the class III bumper. This will accept the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98852 you found. This particular receiver has a capacity up to 600lbs of tongue weight and a trailer up to 6,000lbs. If using a weight distribution hitch it is rated for up to 1,000lbs of tongue weight and a trailer up to 10,000lbs. You will need to verify your exact towing specifications for your truck to determine if this receiver is strong enough for your Ram.
We do have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15572 you can also use. This class V receiver is rated for up to 1,500lbs of tongue weight and 15,000lbs of trailer weight. With a weight distribution it increases to 1,600lbs of tongue weight and 16,000lbs of trailer weight. Again you will need verify your trucks rating and not exceed the lower amount.
