Drilling down through the truck bed is required for the installation of any 5th wheel trailer hitch mounting kit with above the bed rails for your 2015 Ram 1500 short bed, including # DM8552030-71. But this is a 4-bolt installation kit so you would need just 4 holes through the bed and none in the frame.
