Parts Needed To Replace Disc Brake Assemblies On Yamaha Boat Trailer By MFI With 3,700LB Marine Axle

Question:

I have a Yamaha boat trailer with disc brakes built by MFI in 2008. It needs the rotor/hub and caliper replaced on one side although I’m thinking I’ll do both sides. None of the parts have part numbers on them. Here are the specs – Typical 4 bolt hole flange on axle 15” tire with 5-hole 4.5” spacing 10” rotor Unknown axle weight but it appears to be 2-3/8” diameter so guessing 3,500 lbs Tapered spindle 4.5” long Outer bearing ID – ~1.064” – guessing this is a 1-1/16” L44649 type bearing Inner bearing ID - ~1.378” – guessing this is a 1-3/8” L68149 type bearing Grease seal ID - ~1.690 It seemed like the following would be a good match – 1 Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 10 Hub/Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet and KodaGuard - 3,500 lbs - Item # K2HR35DKG 2 Double Lip Seal for 3,700-lb Marine Hubs - Item # 168255TB 2 Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing - L68149 - Item # L68149 2 Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing - L44649 - Item # L44649 1 Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 1980A w/ Auto Check - Chrome Plated Pair- Item # BB1980A Please let me know if these parts make sense for my trailer and/or I’m missing anything I do have marine grease so I don’t need that. Thanks!

Based on the measurements you took it sounds like you nailed exactly what you are looking for. The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR35DKG is great for occasional use on salt water or fresh water. Unless you use your trailer frequently in water than I recommend the Stainless Kit # K2R35S.

The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR35DKG will need 2 Inner Bearings # L68149, 2 Outer Bearings # L44649 and 2 Grease Seals # 168255TB. While the Stainless Kit # K2R35S will need 2 Stainless Hubs # KH84545S along with the 2 Inner Bearings # L68149, 2 Outer Bearings # L44649 and 2 Grease Seals # 168255TB.

For the Bearing Buddy's I recommend the Stainless # BB1980A-SS over the Chrome # BB1980A simply for longevity. Both are have the auto check feature to ensure you do not overfill the hub.
